“Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family”- The late Kofi Annan-Formal UN Secretary General. Schools, undeniably play a critical role in ensuring that individuals obtain the needed education to make this progress, even from a very tender age.
Given the important role that schools play, key issues such as financial management, a fundamental challenge especially in private schools must be given the utmost attention. This is because private schools, without any form of state funding must rely on internally generated funds, to run their schools and at the same time, operate at their highest standards. Often, private school are faced with the decision of how to manage the already inadequate finances to run and grow their schools. Coupled with this, are the increasing cases of financial malpractices in schools, misalignment between goals of school proprietors and managers and poor accountability at different levels (teachers to school leadership; school leadership to proprietors etc.).
This course in ‘Finance for Private School Proprietors, Managers and Administrators’ is designed for existing and potential school proprietors and management to provide them with sound theoretical and practical insights and tools relevant for effective private school financial management.
